I love freezing items. From meals to snacks, and a few things you wouldn’t believe you can do. Some of these will make your a little simpler. You will be more apt to cook meals if you do some of these things. If it’s easy and simple you will be more likely to cook at home than you will if you had to make it right then. Let’s dive on in! 🙂
Do you like crock pot meals, such as soups? Well, if you do and you are anything like me you make TOO much every time. Well that is sort of the point of cooking soup in the crock pot. Well instead of throwing it out or making your family suffer for days by eating soup… break out a ladle & Muffin pan. Spoon out the soup into the pans and freeze. Once they are frozen put them in little bags and put in the freezer. Then just pop it out and microwave when you need a bowl of soup!
Next time cheese is on sale be sure you stock up and freeze it! We freeze a lot of Mozzarella and Cheddar. I like to buy the bricks of cheese when they go on sale, shred them myself, and put in individual bags and freeze. I promise you will slowly notice that $5-$10 savings each time you need shredded cheese.
Make sure that you got an ice cube tray for this one! Chop up fresh herbs, seasonings, and such. Put them in the ice cube trays. Fill to the brim with olive oil. Freeze them. Pop them out and into a ziplock bag. I use one of these every single time I cook chicken, pasta, vegetables, or a salad. These are the things that they charge you $5.67 for a 4 ct box at the grocery store.
Pureed Vegetables in ice trays. These are great to have for soups, smoothies. If you have a baby ready for baby food try these instead of purchasing baby food at the store…at least with fresh vegetables you know what ingredients are in your pureed vegetables.
This stuff goes on sales (a great sale!) about twice a year. Stock up and freeze it. You can freeze it in the bag or you can be like me and divide it up into 1 cup increments.
We started doing this when we lived an hour from the grocery store (one way). Anything 2% and above can be frozen. I highly highly highly suggest that you open and pour out about 2 inches off the top. It tends to expand when it freezes. I suggest stocking up on this when they have those great coupons or sales such as 4 boxes of cereal get your milk free, 2 milks for $5, etc.
Green Chilies! These are great fresh. Chop them and freeze them.
Bell Peppers!! This is an awesome thing to know!! I make fajita’s often. I chop all of my vegetables on a vegetable day so that when I am ready to cook everything is there.
We love my homemade biscuits around here. My recipe makes way more than enough for two. So we freeze them. We cut them in half, and put them in a ziplock bag. Then we take them out when we want them and pop them into the toaster.
Chicken Stock! Yes we cook and shred chicken each month so that it is ready for the meals that I cook throughout the month. I feel like I have lost out! You can store chicken stock in the freezer. You can use this to cook your pasta (I highly suggest it over boiling in water). You can also make chicken noodle soup, and so many other items. Sounds like I need to do a chicken stock round – up post.
Chocolate! Yes you can do it! Freeze that extra chocolate or the 80% off Chocolate at the end of all these Holidays!
Yes you can freeze flour! So next time it is 4 for $5.00 stock up! We use this stuff often with all of my homemade goodies.
LIME JUICE! I use this when I make fajitas, have tavo night, have a great salad, and a few other things I like to cook.
For this one you will need a muffin pan! Crack each egg and put one in each muffin tin. Freeze and then pop into ziplock baggies. This doesn’t really help with quickness of meals but it does help when the eggs are on sale or you have your own chickens.
I also enjoy it for when I am baking or making homemade goodies.
Homemade Casseroles!! You will thank me for this, especially if you are pregnant! Do these in your 7th & 8th month….it makes for great access after newborn baby is here.
Waffles!! Who doesn’t love waffles in the morning?! I know I do….I don’t however like getting up to make them. So…I make them on a Saturday afternoon when I have time. Let them cool, ziplock baggies, and freeze.
HERBS!! Yes you can freeze HERBS!! So grow your own and then chop them and put into ziplock!! FREEZE!!
Pre-made Meatballs! I keep these made and in the freezer because I am the game wardens wife and eat a lot by myself so I can grab some of these with pasta and have a meal for one. It is amazing!
Lemon Juice! I highly suggest you do this! I fill them in the ice trays and freeze. Then I put them in a ziplock bag. Then I use them in my homemade goodies, chicken dishes, fajitas, and so much more.
Sour Milk smell in a sippy cup?!??? Yes, freeze it for 48 hours empty and then wash in the dishwasher….NO SMELL! It is a miracle that I discovered in 2004 before the realm of pinterest!
Marinated Meat. Yes, you can freeze this. Then all you have to do is make a size and cook the marinated meat and you have a meal. It is an amazing trick at making your husband or guests think you slaved in the kitchen.
NUTS! You can freeze nuts! I highly suggest doing this when the holiday sales happen at Christmas. For some reason you can get amazing deals right after the Holidays.
Buttermilk!! Who ever uses the entire thing of buttermilk before it goes bad? I didn’t think so! So get your handy ice tray out and freeze it.
We have pancakes a LOT and each time I freeze the left overs individually and then put them in the toaster in the morning when I feel like eating them.
Pre-Made Hamburger patties. Stock up next time there is a sale on ground. It is amazing to be able to have a hamburger at home whenever you want. You just pop it in the skillet and cook, cover in cheese, and wa-la.
Pesto! Homemade or Store bought you can freeze it. I don’t use a TON of pesto so I usually freeze in ice trays or muffin tins, then I put in my baggies and use when needed.
Pizza Dough. Make it from scratch and freeze it. Then make it fun night for the family and pizza night. 😉
You can even make these in personal pizza sizes.
You can go ahead and stock up on those great cheese deals! Freeze them! We have been doing that since I was a child. 🙂
Shredded Chicken. Go ahead and cook that whole thing of chicken! Shred it and freeze it. Then you can have fajitas, chicken noodle soup, chicken tacos, chicken stuffing, ha you get the hint.
Cookie Dough! I hate to even share this one because you won’t buy cookie dough from the sweet little kids. You can make a huge batch of cookies and freeze them. That way you can just pop them in the oven and enjoy.
CHOPPED ONION! Keep these around! I freeze these by the 3lbs! Our fresh local market has a 3lb sale every other month. So I purchase it, chop them all and put a cup in each baggie!
